The North Carolina Constitution states that all persons are created equal. It is the first right listed!
Section 1: “We hold it to be self-evident that all persons are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, the enjoyment of the fruits of their own labor, and the pursuit of happiness.”
I support equal pay for equal work in the North Carolina government and will introduce legislation to ensure that government pay scales reflect this. The North Carolina government generally can not force a private company to act similarly, however the legislature can utilize a “carrot and stick” approach with companies that provide services to the citizens through government contracts. I will introduce legislation that requires all NC Government contractors to enact equal pay for equal work policies. Enjoyment of the fruits of their own labor. Economic equality is the cornerstone to establishing a strong foundation for any and all other issues of equality. Without that cornerstone established, no other efforts toward equality can succeed.
I plan to introduce legislation proposing a “first in the south” women’s tax cut! I will propose a repeal of state sales tax on feminine hygiene products. I believe they are medical necessities, not merely consumer goods and should be treated as such for tax purposes.
Additionally, I support healthcare services for women’s needs. If we can re-prioritize spending in Raleigh, we can ensure that needed services in the 99th District of Charlotte NC are fully funded. Read more about my Healthcare and Taxes and Spending positions. – ‘Action’ Jackson Pethtal
